The new Roadmap & Trello integration is a match made in product management heaven. The integration lets you push your high-level roadmap items or user feedback you’ve collected with Roadmap’s feedback widget to your Trello boards.

We’re stoked to tell you more about the integration, why we built it, and how to get started!

Why It’s Awesome

The Roadmap & Trello integration saves time and keeps your team focused on getting [the right] things done. With the integration product planning and user feedback from Roadmap are connected to your process for knocking out tasks with Trello. Once you complete an item on Trello by moving it to your “done” list, that roadmap item is marked as completed in Roadmap too.

A big challenge in managing customer feedback is closing the feedback loop and letting users know when an update they’re interested in has gone live. With Roadmap, whenever you move a card in Trello to your done list any users that have subscribed to the associated project in Roadmap are automatically notified of the great news!

Why We Built It

In my role as a customer success manager I’ve used Trello boards to collect customer feedback, organize feature requests, and share public product roadmaps. Read more about that here on Trello’s blog. While we still use Trello boards to organize our development projects, it became harder to understand how feedback requests impact our business objectives in the aggregate.

Trello + Roadmap

We wanted to be more proactively involved with customer feedback than what our previous workflow with Trello alone allowed us to do. The Roadmap widget gives customers a way to submit feedback and show their support in a format that makes it easier for us to manage. By collecting feedback with Roadmap, we leverage the data we already know about users in our app such as how much MRR is associated with requests, if requests are coming from new customers or customers that have been around a while, and whether they’re engaged with particular features. Rather than waiting for a customer to submit a support ticket and then having someone from our team add the details to Trello, with the feedback widget we proactively give customers an outlet to submit feedback or requests. Now the integration makes it easy to organize/merge feedback before pushing it to Trello.

A big challenge in managing customer feedback is closing the feedback loop and letting users know when an update they’re interested in has gone live. We also wanted to communicate our product roadmap in a way that didn’t look or feel like a task list (ain’t nobody got time to look at your task list!). Public roadmaps are a proactive way for customer success to communicate the direction of your product.
